Everyone loves Taco Bell. We drew on long-mounting hype over the opening of a Taco Bell 15 minutes from campus as well as the cultural fixture of the brand itself. Current students reacted with excitement, while alumni reacted with (mostly) satirical disappointment at having missed the boat. The result was our most successful post in over two years.
Celebrating a local fixture of the Sewanee community after 50 years of service to the school. This post connected with generations of students—particularly students of color—who knew and were supported by Miss Shirley. In the comments, students, alumni, staff, and faculty came together, reminiscing about the impact she’d had on their time at Sewanee.
A tribute to the rapper, Coolio, who had performed at Sewanee a decade prior, inviting alumni who had attended the concert to share their memories of a legendary artist and a wild Sewanee night. It was our fifth most successful post in more than two years.
Leveraging a shot of two well-known students walking across campus, we elicited an immediate response from friends and parents while hearkening alumni back to walking through the Sewanee fog on their way to class. The engagement from these audiences helped to boost overall profile performance over the next several days.
